Bryan Hoffman achieved a gold medal in the 30-34 years 50m Breaststroke and silver in the 100m Breaststroke. This traditional swim race crosses the Hellespont starting in Europe and finishing in Asia. It has been held for the last 25 years, drawing swimmers from around Turkey and overseas. This year’s race attracted 253 swimmers who tackled the crossing in poor weather conditions. Lisa finished second in the 31-35 years women’s category in a time of 55.54 minutes. Lisa received her silver medal from the local mayor in a podium ceremony. Sep 1, 2010, 1:05 pm

This picture shows Ian (on the left) at the Penguin Dinner Dance in 2005 with then Club President Steve Baker. Ian was a long-standing member of Penguin, serving on the Committee as Club Secretary and Registrations Secretary for many years, as well as running the Masters Swimming section. In recognition of his services to the Club he was made a Life Member a number of years back. Our thoughts are with Ian's family. Ian's funeral took place on Friday 20 August at Mortlake Crematorium. Steve Baker paid tribute to Ian's role within the Club. Read the tribute here (pdf). Donations to Ian’s chosen charities: The Pembridge Education Fund or Hammersmith Hospitals Kidney Patients' Association. Aug 11, 2010, 8:57 am Pete was a very active water polo player for Penguin in the 50s, 60s and 70s and was Club Captain in 1967. He was a highly amiable guy and, as someone said, "He was one of a kind - he never had a bad word to say about anybody."
Pete is seen here (centre) in an extract of a Penguin Club photo taken in about 1961.
He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. Our condolences go to his widow Jean and to his sons Simon and Mark.
Jean has invited Penguins that knew Peter to join her and her family in a celebration of Peter's life at Christ Church, The Common, Chorleywood, Herts WD3 5SG on Wednesday 25th August at 1.30 pm. And, after the celebration, at the Hertfordshire Bowling Club which Jean and Peter loved so much (Bellmount Wood Avenue, Watford WD17 3BT).
